Police Sirens
Police sirens blare as I
sit and stare
trying to understand the mentality of all the brutality
I am seeing.
Maybe it's too obvious
maybe they're just too envious
A rich culture, fabulous heritage
they've tried to hide it but wait, look deeper, there it is
While trying to understand
why it's so hard to be understood as a black man
I tend to overstand that being just a man is something that can-
not be done because I am a black man
being held down by the hand
of that other man
with that artificial tan
Too many times
I hear
too many rhymes
it's clear there's a message there
Just a little consciousness in our people, one big thing we need.
Know that after generations, we're still not considered equal, no matter how integrated we believe.
Wake up
rise up
as one
Wake up
rise up
become
The most feared black man
an educated, black man
not the hot shot
who bragged about his hot shots
from his black glock
at niggaz on his block.
Shoot knowledge at 'em
shoot wisdom at 'em
why is it necessary to kill 'em?
Let's try to be at peace with ones self
let's try to concentrate on our health
and just stop killing ourself
and gain wealth
Wealth of the mind
wealth of your spiritual self
'cuz material wealth
could make you kill yourself,
or others.
somebody's mother
somebody's father
somebody's sister
somebody's brother
causing those
police sirens to come irate
bringing blue suited monkeys to
eviscerate
what once was a mighty people
and cause them to capitulate
with nary a peep.
False ideas of falsehoods
in our neighborhoods
while outside our neighborhoods
we're kept at bay by men in white hoods
but I thought it was understood,
we were equal.
Nope, nuh uh, not a chance
not while we're guests at our own dance
until we as a PEOPLE wake up and stand... as one.
Only then
will police sirens
be silent
Police sirens blare as I
sit and stare
trying to understand the mentality of all the brutality
I am seeing.
